High View Nature Loop, California

Total Distance: 1.3 miles
Elevation Gain: 321 feet

Trail Type: Loop
Difficulty: Easy

The Hike: Hiking to High View is the perfect way to experience the unique landscape of both Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave desert for beginners and those on a time crunch. The trail takes hikers up on top of a desert mountain, and offers close to 360 degree views from the summit. Hikers will see countless Joshua Trees on this short hike, and will likely see few other hikers as this is one of the more secluded hikes in the park. The trail is easy enough for both beginners and families.

The Details: Park at the High View Parking lot off of S Park Road (34°04'34.8"N, 116°23'57.5"W). From there, follow signs for the High View Nature Loop. Follow the trail through the desert and to the top of the mountain – there is a bench at the top for those who want a break and to take in the views at the top. Once finished at the top, keep hiking forward as the trail takes you down the mountain and eventually back to your car.

Gear: For this hike, we recommend bringing along either the Summer Day Hike Essentials.
