Funnel Arch, Utah

Total Distance: 1.1 miles
Elevation Gain: 278 feet

Trail Type: Out-and-back
Difficulty: Intermediate

The Hike: Located right outside of the town of Moab, Funnel Arch is a lesser known trail that takes hikers to the base of a secluded sandstone arch. Although short, the hike requires a more advanced level of rock scrambling. The hike can safely be done in a pair sturdy hiking shoes without technical equipment, however hikers are advised to use caution during steeper sections climbing.

After the hike, be sure to walk across the dirt road to check out the “birthing rock” petroglyph panel located immediately on the other side of the parking area.

The Details: From the parking lot, scramble up the ridge until you see a drainage basin in the rocks. Cautiously scramble up, continuing until you reach the top. From the top of the mesa, follow cairns and footprints in the sand that veer right and up another drainage. Once at the top, continue straight until you see the arch. After spending some time at the top, retrace your steps back to your car.

Gear: For this hike, we recommend bringing along either the Winter or Summer Day Hike Essentials, depending on the season.
