Gear Review: Title Nine Switchback Joggers & Notton Raglan Long Sleeve Tee

Review by: Colleen Goldhorn

As the summer starts cooling down, I’ve been on the hunt for clothes that can keep up both on warm fall afternoon hikes, and chilly mornings alike. I spent the last few weeks testing out the Title Nine Switchback Joggers and Notton Raglan Long Sleeve Tee with this in mind – and I am all but jumping with excitement about just how well these pieces of gear stacked up.

Circumstances of Review: I tested both pieces of gear on multiple day hikes and backpacking trips in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. The gear was put to the test by hiking to alpine lakes in the summer sun, while also needing to keep me warm enough as the sun went down.

We pride ourselves in testing all gear on multiple outings, and putting durability to the test in a multitude of weather, climate, and usability situations.

About The Brand: In 1972, the Title IX act made it illegal for any public institution to limit participation in sports based on a person’s gender. Named after this piece of legislation, Title Nine is a brand of women’s clothing that is changing the game in athletic apparel. While most athletic gear seems to be designed with men in mind, Title Nine changes the narrative for women, giving extensive options of athletic clothing to suit every body type.

MSRP: $110

Material: 100% poly with DWR

To say I am obsessed with these pants is an understatement – I feel like I haven’t taken them off since I got them. The Switchback Joggers set a new bar when it comes to hiking pants. Although I typically hike in leggings during the shoulder seasons and into winter, I have a feeling these are going to be on heavy rotation throughout all seasons of the year.

The Switchback Joggers are made of a durable material that’s treated with DWR. This helps the fabric repel water and keeps you dry when on cool rainy days. The joggers feature an adjustable elastic waistband, and the fit is relaxed and comfortable, while also being flattering. I’m not kidding when I say you feel like you could conquer the world – or any trail – in these pants.

My favorite part of these pants? Pockets – seven of them to be exact. Two front hand and two back pockets, one zip waistband pocket, one secret card pocket, and one zip leg pocket gives you options when storing your phone, snacks, or wallet. I loved the option to easily move things out of the hand pockets and into the leg zipper during rock scramble sections, and the secret card pocket is ideal for smaller items you want to keep handy.

These joggers are all-around amazing. I loved having a solid pant option for summer hikes at high elevation where the temperature tends to be cooler, yet I can see these pants seamlessly transitioning to fall, and even into winter with a base layer underneath.

MSRP: $69

Material: 100% poly with StinkStopper™

Features:

Similar to its partner in crime mentioned above – the Switchback Joggers – the Notton Raglan Long Sleeve Tee is perfect for days where you need a warm layer to throw on as the sun starts to go down, or for high elevation hikes with cooler temps.

I loved how much warmth this tee packed for its light weight, and it was constantly in my day-pack as an extra layer. On brisk fall days, the tee holds up perfectly as your main hiking top, and the StickStopper technology helps keep you smelling fresh even on hard climbs. I loved the lightweight and relaxed fit, and it was great to wear on its own, or tucked in (or tied up) for an after-hike burger and beer look.

The Raglan sleeves also helped keep this shirt on heavy rotation for me. The sleeves are designed as one piece of fabric, which eliminates shoulder seams and helps keep your backpack feeling comfortable throughout your hike. This shirt is also an extremely versatile piece that is perfect for cool summer hikes, yet can stay by your side straight through fall. I’d be curious to test it in the colder months, but from what I can tell it would be a great layer on mild winter days.

One piece of gear that you can use all year long? Can’t ask for too many things better.

Overall Value

Overall, both pieces of gear held up amazing throughout the testing period. I love how they both seamlessly transition into each season, and can be paired perfectly together for the ultimate hiking outfit. Coming in at $69 and $110, respectively, the price is about average for similar pieces. These would be a great investment for someone wanting to get into more technical hiking pieces as you can use these both items almost year around to get the most “bang for your buck”, unlike most gear which is designed for one season.

Happy hiking!
